Busy, busy, busy!!!

So sorry it's been a while since our post! We have just completed our unit about Celebrations around the world and what a great ending we had with our multicultural feast! Thank you all so much for all your work sending in so much fabulous food. The kids all tried a bite of each item. Today we took a ride on the Polar Express! So much excitement was desplayed while waiting to board the train with tickets in hand! The kids were read the story and enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie. In Math we just completed Unit 3 and took the assessment today. We sent home the math workbooks today. They can stay home and students will be getting a second one when they return from the break. Tomorrow we will be building gingerbread houses.

We hope you all have a wonderful and restful break and Happy Holidays! See you in 2010!

It's November!

Where does the time go? So sorry for taking so long to post! We all enjoyed our Halloween Party and activities. Thanks to all the adults for making that such a wonderful day. The kids had a great time. We are now starting to learn about times past. We learned about the First Thanksgiving on Friday and today we are writing about what we might be doing at Thanksgiving with our families. In Math we continue to learn about the +1 rule, which is simply just adding one to a number. This week we will be doing assessments to provide information for their report cards.

Yesterday we had another visit to the computer lab and we were logged on to compass learning. It takes a while to log on 30 kids to the website even with the five adults we had! Please practice logging on at home. The user ID is their lunch number with a 1 in front and the password is their birth date, six digits. They have all been shown how to do this they just need practice! Have fun!

Stop, Drop and Roll!

We started our day by attending a Fire Safety assembly. They were told to establish a family meeting place in case there was a fire in their house.

In math we started learning about problem solving. Students were given some family stories such as, 4 family members were eating breakfast and the mom and the sister left the table. How many were still eating breakfast? The students were asked to draw this on their white boards and had turns to explain their thinking during our "math talk". The kids were really engaged with this activity! Practice story telling skills with math at home!

Come check our our ghosts hanging in our windows with some fabulous Halloween writing! Have a great weekend!

Computer Lab

Today was our first trip to the computer lab with all 29 of us! Good thing we had 4 adults in the room :) They did well. Click the link on the blog that says Compass learning and then use their lunch number and put a 1 in front of it. This number is their user name and their password is their birthday (six digits).

They can access compass learning at home as much as they like! Please give them some one on one time to help them get used to the program and where to put their finger and click on the mouse! We will continue to go to the computer lab every Tuesday.

Action and Consequences

We started the day today going on a BIG school bus and practiced evacuation in the event of an emergency. This bus drill is mandatory every year. In math we talked about shapes again and prepared some "shape pieces" for up coming lessons. We also practiced writing the number "3". At the end of the day we read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears and talked about cause and effect and how actions cause consequences. The students finished up the lesson by making puppets of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They took them home so you can have them practice retelling the story. If you have the book at home read it again!

Personal Space!

Today we had our first Physical Education class. We learned about personal space and that we take it with us everywhere we go. Help your child learn that they should respect others personal space by keeping their hands and body to themselves. In writing we practiced the upper and lower case "P". We also came up with words starting with "P" and listened for the sound of "P" at the beginning or the ending of words. In math we continued to talk about things that are alike and different. We compared a circle to a cylinder naming characteristics that were the same and different. We also met our Third grade buddies today in Mr. Romanowski's class!

"P" is the letter of the week and Brown is the color of the week. Tomorrow is our first day of PE! Please send your child in comfortable shoes.

Please remember to return them to school by Tuesday. We also had our first assembly today that explained our gift wrap fundraiser. Your child was to asked to put the packet in the refrigerator so that you would find it...just in case you were wondering why they did that? We also completed our first art project today, the students learned about lines and made a caterpillar using different types of lines. Ask them to show you different types of lines around the room! Wow what a busy day we had!
